I’ve had more than a few managers since I started working. Yes, it’s true that no one is perfect, but this is something that I’ve been thinking about for quite some time. Some people are simply not cut out to be managers, though they might not even realize that. There are certain things that you just shouldn't do if you are a manager.
Never raise your voice to your employees. No one likes to be yelled at. It doesn't matter if you’re intending to raise your voice or not, you should always make sure to keep your voice even when dealing with your employees.
Practice what you preach. Don’t tell your employees to do something, and then turn around and do exactly what you told them not to. That will cause them not to respect you, which in turn, will mean that they won’t want to listen. For instance, don’t tell them no personal phone calls, and then turn around call your best friend for no reason.
Don’t let personal feelings affect how you deal with your employees. Even if you do not personally like someone for whatever reason… as long as they’re doing their job the way they’re supposed to, why say anything?
No favoritism. This is something that I've seen a lot… and no matter if you like one employee better than the other, treat everyone the same. Favoritism is a good way to lose employees.
Know your job. There is nothing I hate more than a manager who doesn't know how to work in their store or company. One of your employees should never know more than you, and if they do, then there’s a problem. I understand that sometimes managers are hired from outside the company, but make an effort to learn everything so that you can tell your employees what to do, and not the other way around.
I have had these problems with former managers, and found them the most common and most annoying. It’s also worth noting to listen to your employees and don’t fire them for no reason… and don’t look for a reason to fire them. I think that goes without saying, but I guess you never know, do you?

Employee Behaviour at Work
Why is that you get people working with you who can't do their job or just don't want to?
I work at a fast food place. Yes, I know it's not the most glamorous job in the world, but it pays my bills. My problem is that I get people working there who don't want to work there. Do I like working there? No, not really, but I do my job. I get up and go to work every day, regardless of whether I want to or not. I get annoyed when people come to work, and then complain all day of how they don't want to be there. Sometimes it makes me want to pull my own hair out, or most of the time - hurt someone. Needless to say, I've never actually hit anyone, though I've been sorely tempted to a few times.
Does it really matter if you don't want to be there or not? You're there to work, not mouth off about how much you hate your job and want to go home. The point of having a job is to work. I don't care why you're working. Honestly, I don't. It doesn't matter to me whether you're doing it for a good reason - saving for college, saving for a car, helping with bills - or for a selfish reason - you just want cash, and there's nothing wrong with that. I understand. I was there once. There are other job options, though, and if you hate it enough to do nothing but say how horrible the job is, then you should probably re-think your job.
The problem with complaining is that you have people around you who can't stand to listen to your stupid whining and jabbering on. That's not what you're there for. If you want to do that, go home, because no one there wants to hear you. I promise you that. For instance, the other day, one of the cooks was goofing off, talking, and not working and doing their job. Orders were taking 20 - 30 minutes at a fast food place. Is that bad? Yes, very much so. Also, we had people that day who didn't want to clean the store. Why? I don't know and I don’t care. The fact of the matter is even if you don't want to do it, if it's your job, you HAVE to. It's what you're getting paid to do.
Lesson: Do the job you're getting paid for, and if you really hate it that much: Find another job and QUIT! Everyone will be better off, believe me. You won't be missed by anyone that matters.
